Jacob Banks

Jacob Banks got his start performing local gigs around Birmingham, England along with a close friend who regularly encouraged Banks to pursue a career in music. After his friend passed away, Banks performed at his funeral and subsequently focused on making a name for himself in the music world. By 2013, Banks has already recorded his debut EP, The Monologue, which began to receive regular airplay on mainstream UK radio. His second EP, The Paradox, followed in 2015. Banks is characterized by his smooth baritone vocals, sung to the tune of soulful R&B and hip-hop.

Artist Feature: Marioso

I can say with no doubt in my heart it was a conversation that kept me smiling. Who would have thought my cheeks could hurt so badly. I'm excited for Marioso; I'm excited about his dreams and the success of his “happiness spirit.” There is nothing that would make me happier than to see his Project 11 be a positive influence in the DMV area. I know how crucial it is to have art as an outlet in your youth. The fact that Marioso is prepared to create this space and wants to is inspiring. What I can say about working with Marioso on this collab is this, do not underestimate his skill or his talents. Don’t let age stop you from respecting his professionalism, and don’t let his pictures be without his white gloves. He is his art, and he represents it well.

Punk: as in, rebel, opposing the simple route, imbued with a DIY ethic, looking forward with simplicity, rawness and open curiosity; see also other, see also underdog.

AFROPUNK is defining culture by the collective creative actions of the individual and the group. It is a safe place, a blank space to freak out in, to construct a new reality, to live your life as you see fit, while making sense of the world around you. - Afropunk
